So many fan’s have come forward with incredible memorabilia for the We March On: Southampton Football Club, Then and Now exhibition. The latest is Ted Bates chair which would have been in the director’s box in the middle of the west Stand at The Dell. It’s now display at SeaCity Museum.
Nicknamed ‘Mr Southampton’, Bates first played for Southampton at the age of nineteen before becoming manager and leading them into the First Division in 1966. He was then to become chief executive, a director, followed by vice-president and then president. He is now commemorated by a statue outside St Mary’s.
